Thrifting deal of the day!

Deal of the Day

A few months ago I bought these 15-20 Little People talking zoo animals at Catholic Charities Thrift Store in a couple grab bags I spent about $2 total (See that post Here) and they're worth at minimum $4 each animal.  They've been a ton of fun for The Kid on their own. She loves to talk about the animals and what they say, and their names.

Then today on the Infant/Children's swap I found the zoo that they go with for $5!!!!! Best price I found on Ebay for the same thing was $25! So for a total of $7 I have a little people set that would have cost me well over $50 that's practically brand new. I didn't even have to put batteries in it, it still works :D  Happy thrifty Momma right here! I cannot wait to see The Kid's face when she gets up tomorrow morning to see this new playset.

Thrifting

I finally got a chance to go to the thrift shops alone the other day, What a great day I had!  Here's my haul:

All this for just under $10!

Christmas stocking, $1, matches the set of 6 we already have, but "just in case" I grabbed another, we can use it for the pets, or if we have more family members than that?? Oh my.

And this beautiful hand-knit sweater & hat set for only $4, brand new!!!

2 full gallon size ziplock bags of little people animals (and 2 people) for a buck apiece.  We don't have the sets that go with them (yet) but I've had great luck picking up pieces at yard sales and other thrift shops, I found the barn for 75 cents (empty) once, and she can have all sorts of jungle animals in her barn, she'll love them!

Then there were 2 child size belts, and a pair of green/pink owl socks all 3 were $.50/each.

Thrifted

Skirt, Felt Bugs book, Curious George book and a curious George book as well as these odds and ends shown below for less than $4!

3 Little People figurines and 2 Wooden Blocks, they were in a grab bag marked $1 with a bunch of other stuff I didn't want, I paid the $1, pulled out the 5 things I wanted and re-donated the rest.  Slowly but surely we're building up The Kid's Little People collection... I'll have to photograph it all sometime, my very best friend Amber gave us most of her daughters' collection that they outgrew minus a few pieces that went missing. The Kid's farm (the barn I purchased at a thrift shop for 75 cents now has a cow, goat, horse, farmer, zebra, firehouse dog, giraffe, circus lion and a ringmaster. I mean what kid's farm shouldn't have a zebra!!

Upcycled Kitchen Part II

The other day I showed you the kitchen, today I'm going to share a few of the thrifting finds / crafty things that went into making it.  In my area there are 3 thrift shops, I try to pop in about once a week and see if there are any good bargains.  I've scored some really cool stuff over the last year or so, some of which I will share here later.

For the kitchen we found this fabulous mini-mini-muffin pan for only 99 cents!

Some fifty cent salt & pepper shakers, I sanded them down to paint.

The tops of the S&P shakers

The painting process, these on the right are the knobs for the burners.
I made sure after each coat of paint to take a toothpick and poke the holes on the top so they wouldn't seal up and dry.  One is missing a plug, but once I find one I plan to fill them with rice and superglue them shut so they make a noise when shaken.

The adorable little mixer she got from my mom for Christmas!

A wooden tray, cutting board and spoons all thrifted - 50 cents each

Cute little mold, also thrifted, also 50 cents

The cute apron she got from her Auntie
